The crowd, estimated at more than 500, gathered in the 97-degree heat, that with humidity felt like 101, to celebrate and watch the re-enactment of the city's formation.
"I know our forefathers would be proud to stand here with me to celebrate this incredible park, once a community gathering place for those traveling via the railroad," Mayor Jeff Potter said. "They would be delighted to look around and see these historic buildings intact and looking better than ever."
Each city commissioner took on the role of a founding father while re-enacting the first town council meeting with a script based on the actual minutes of the first three meetings.
