These are important positions and we need strong leadership that reflects the diversity within the U.S. cotton industry. Diverse representation provides a wide range of knowledge and experience to the table that enhances the work of the cotton research and promotion programs, "says cotton farmer from Texas and chairman of Craig Shook.
Shook President recently hosted two conference calls with the CPO and CIO to stress the importance of the diversity of the board and encourage broad participation in the industry. USDA guidelines for the Board appointments underscore the advice checking should reflect the diversity in size of operations, members' experience, methods of production and distribution, marketing strategies, as well as race, ethnicity and gender. The USDA guidelines state that boards must be representative of the people in the industry that contributes to the promotion of research and evaluation.Shook also stated: "It is clear thatboard diversity will continue to play an important role as Secretary of Agriculture considers potential candidates to the Board of cotton.
